Drug: Kojic Acid, Niacinamide, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Emollients | Class: Topical Depigmenting & Skin Brightening Agent | Brand: Melaglow Rich (Melaglow / Albert David India) | Indication: Hyperpigmentation, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), uneven skin tone, dark spots | Dose: Apply to affected areas once or twice daily
Melaglow Rich Depigmentation Cream treats hyperpigmentation — dark patches, melasma, and post-inflammatory dark spots — using a multi-ingredient approach. Kojic acid blocks melanin production by inhibiting the tyrosinase enzyme; niacinamide prevents melanin from reaching skin surface cells; and glycolic/lactic acids exfoliate hyperpigmented surface skin. Used twice daily with SPF sun protection, visible brightening is typically seen within 4–6 weeks.

Kojic acid inhibits tyrosinase reducing melanin synthesis; niacinamide blocks melanosome transfer to keratinocytes; glycolic/lactic acids accelerate hyperpigmented cell turnover — making Kojic Acid, Niacinamide, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Emollients effective against hyperpigmentation, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (pih), uneven skin tone, dark spots.
Initial lightening of dark spots may be visible within 3–4 weeks. Significant improvement in melasma or PIH typically requires 8–12 weeks of consistent twice-daily use. Sun protection (SPF 30–50) is essential throughout — UV exposure reverses depigmentation and can worsen melasma. Stopping sun protection cancels the cream’s benefits.
Consult your obstetrician before using any depigmenting cream during pregnancy. Niacinamide and glycolic acid are generally considered safe in pregnancy. Kojic acid has limited safety data in pregnancy. Hydroquinone-containing creams should be avoided entirely during pregnancy. If melasma develops during pregnancy, a physician-approved alternative is preferred.
Yes — sunscreen must be used alongside Melaglow Rich. Apply Melaglow Rich as the last skincare step before sunscreen in the morning. Sunscreen is not optional — UV exposure directly stimulates melanin production, counteracting the cream’s effects. SPF 50 broad-spectrum (UVA+UVB) applied every 2–3 hours of sun exposure is recommended.
Hydroquinone is the traditional gold standard depigmenting agent — highly effective but associated with ochronosis (blue-black skin discolouration) with long-term use, and restricted/banned in several countries. Melaglow Rich uses kojic acid, niacinamide, and AHAs as safer alternatives without hydroquinone. It is safer for long-term maintenance but may be less potent for severe melasma.
No — unlike hydroquinone-steroid combinations or potent corticosteroids, Melaglow Rich does not contain steroids and does not cause skin thinning (atrophy). The AHAs (glycolic/lactic acid) accelerate cell turnover but do not thin the dermis. Some initial dryness or mild peeling may occur — reduce frequency to once daily if irritation develops.
