Ivermectin 1% cream (brand name Soolantra) is a topical antiparasitic used to treat the inflammatory pustules and papules of rosacea — a chronic skin condition caused partly by Demodex mites. Applied once daily to the face for 12 weeks, it is superior to metronidazole 0.75% cream for rosacea based on two Phase III clinical trials. Unlike oral ivermectin, the cream works locally on the skin and has minimal systemic absorption.
Ivermectin Cream 1%-30gm contains Ivermectin, a topical antiparasitic. It is indicated for papulopustular rosacea (inflammatory lesions), demodex mite-associated skin conditions. Two Phase III RCTs (ATTRACT studies): ivermectin 1% cream superior to metronidazole 0.75% for rosacea inflammatory lesion clearance.

Kills Demodex folliculorum mites in skin follicles; anti-inflammatory effect via reduction of mite-triggered TLR2 activation. This mechanism of action makes Ivermectin effective against papulopustular rosacea (inflammatory lesions), demodex mite-associated skin conditions.
No — ivermectin cream 1% is a topical formulation absorbed minimally through the skin, working locally to kill Demodex mites in facial follicles. Oral ivermectin tablets are systemic medications for internal parasite infections. They share the same active ingredient but have completely different indications, dosing, and routes of administration.
Patients typically see improvement in rosacea inflammatory lesions (pustules, papules) within 4 weeks of once-daily application, with peak results at 12 weeks. In the ATTRACT clinical trials, 38% of patients achieved complete clearance of inflammatory lesions at 12 weeks versus 11% with metronidazole. Maintenance therapy may be continued beyond 12 weeks.
Oral ivermectin tablets are the standard treatment for scabies. Topical ivermectin cream (1%) has been studied for crusted (Norwegian) scabies and regular scabies in limited trials but is not approved or widely used for this indication — permethrin 5% cream or oral ivermectin are the standard treatments.
Apply a pea-sized amount to each of the five facial areas (forehead, chin, nose, left cheek, right cheek) once daily, in the evening. Smooth in a thin layer — avoid eyes, mouth, and lips. Do not wash the face for at least 1 hour after application. Sunscreen should be used during the day as rosacea skin is photosensitive.
No — ivermectin cream is not a steroid. It is an antiparasitic agent. It should not be confused with topical corticosteroid creams. Topical steroids are contraindicated in rosacea (they worsen the condition), whereas ivermectin cream specifically treats the underlying Demodex mite-mediated inflammation of rosacea.
