How it works

Trazodone changes how serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain, is handled. It blocks some serotonin receptors and also slows the re-uptake of serotonin, which helps to lift mood over time. It also has a calming effect, which is why drowsiness is a common effect, especially in the first days of treatment.
